In February, Radio Shack filed for bankruptcy. On Tuesday, the bankruptcy court approved a plan that will turn 1740 Radio Shack locations into Radio Shack/Sprint co-branded stores. Sprint's operation will occupy one-third of each store. Delaware bankruptcy court Judge Brendan Shannon approved the sale of the stores to a hedge fund named Standard General.

Adding 1740 new locations could help Sprint since customers have been known to wait for as long as two hours to buy and activate a new phone. Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure has praised Radio Shack's locations, calling them "incredible." Back ...

You can now opt out of Verizon Wireless’ relentless tracking program for real

Verizon Wireless is finally letting its customers opt out of its ad-targeting program that uses persistent, undeletable tracking codes on phones, reports The New York Times. The mobile carrier has been injecting users’ devices with ‘supercookies’ — also known as unique identifier headers (UIDH) — into its network traffic. It enables Verizon to capture information about your browsing history even if you’re using incognito mode which doesn’t allow standard cookies to be saved to your device. To disable header tracking, Verizon subscribers can call 1-866-211-0874 or visit the company’s site to opt out. The company said its systems will stop…

Motorola intros the Moto Selfie Stick: wood, leather, and a touch of class

An old legend has it that for every smartphone owner who hates selfie sticks, there are 100 others who constantly use them. Motorola seems to be well aware of this legend, as it just unveiled its first selfie stick, naturally called Moto Selfie Stick.

Now, the Moto Selfie Stick isn't like the other sticks out there. It's assembled by hand, and comes in several variants, including one that's made out of real wood and is dressed in hand-stitched leather (this would make a great pair with that red leather Moto X, wouldn't it?). As Motorola puts it, "a selfie stick is not just an accessory, ...

The kings of storage space: smartphones with 128 GB of internal memory

In case you haven't noticed, we've reached the point where a smartphone can offer the same amount of storage space as a decent laptop. In the near future, we'll even see mid-range smartphones with 128 GB of built-in memory, as Samsung recently developed a new NAND flash chip with that in mind. Of course, all this was inevitable, as high-end handsets with 32 GB of internal memory have been around for quite a while.

Right now, though, there aren't too many smartphones that provide 128 GB of storage space. But we've searched for the ones that do, and we're presenting them below, in chronological ...

Want a free VR headset? Buy an LG G3 (US only)

LG now has a gift for customers who are buying its G3 smartphone in the US: a free VR headset (while supplies last). Initially, this offer was supposed to be available starting last month, but it's better late than never, right?

The LG G3 with free VR headset is available only at "participant stores" across the US. Unfortunately, there's no mention on exactly which stores are included. Moreover, the VR headset that LG is giving away is nothing more than a G3-taylored plastic variant of the Google Cardboard (which can be purchased for $20), so it's definitely not as expensive as Samsung's ...

Samsung Galaxy Alpha update to Android 5.0.1 to take place next month

Back in December, we passed along the word from a reliable source that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha would be updated to Android 5.0 by the end of the first quarter. That forecast might end up being a tad too optimistic. A tweet sent out earlier today by Samsung France revealed that the metal framed handset could receive the Android 5.0.1 update at any second. But with the first quarter ending at midnight tonight, an April rollout seems most likely.

The update to Android 5.0.1 will include Material Design, the 64-bit ART compiler for faster opening of apps, Project Volta for longer battery life, ...

Qualcomm says there's no Snapdragon 815 processor in the works

According to rumors, this is supposed to be one of Qualcomm's future octa-core processors, allegedly running cooler than both the Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801. But when will it be released? Well, it looks like "never" is the only viable answer to this question.

According to Fudzilla, Qualcomm Senior Director of Public Relations Jon Carvill recently said that "there are no plans for a Snapdragon 815 processor."

OK, so the Snapdragon 815 doesn't exist, but this doesn't mean the current SD 810 - used by ...
